The Baldur's Gate 3 Creators Reveal a New Divinity, Labeling it Their Most Ambitious RPG Yet

The speculation around the recent awards show was significant, particularly after host Geoff Keighley posted a puzzling photo of a strange statue. The mystery is finally answered. Larian Studios is creating a brand-new Divinity game.

Revealed to be Divinity, the game was showcased with a daring trailer packed with memorable imagery, from a figure engulfed in flames to scenes of revelry and the very opening of infernal gates.

A Different Direction

Anyone expecting Divinity Original Sin 3, this is not that. Larian stated ahead of time that a third Original Sin game to its critically acclaimed RPGs is not currently in development.

That said, the developer referred to this new Divinity as a continuation of the core franchise. This phrasing hints that the team is likely building a faster-paced experience instead of another tactical title. Currently, this is speculation, as only a announcement clip is available.

A Pillar of Modern RPGs

The Divinity series is highly rated and it's fair to claim it pioneered the contemporary revival of deep computer role-playing games. These games are known for detailed worlds, player agency, and deep class systems—qualities that recently were perfected in games like Baldur's Gate 3.

While its world is familiar fare, what makes Divinity apart is the immense freedom given to the player.

In contrast to modern RPGs have pared back options, Divinity is packed with niche playthroughs only possible by choosing a distinct build with a personal story.

The series is also wonderfully flexible, allowing players to find creative solutions both in story and combat. Virtually all objectives can be completed in multiple ways, frequently in unexpected fashion.

  • You might progress the story because you recalled something a dog told you.
  • Or, you could overcome an obstacle by moving environmental hazards in a unorthodox way.

The Journey Continues

It is precisely these elements that lead fans and critics to hail games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as among the greatest role-playing games ever made. Now, the RPG community can anticipate another adventure in this legendary franchise.
